What The Hell Made Me Into A Science Fiction Fan?

I was just thinking to myself why, in the name of all sacred, did I become a fan of science fiction? Really, what makes us different from all those fantasy, horror, thriller-loving people? You know, popular ones! :) When did it all begin?

That was me thinking aloud. But it got me thinking. It turns out there was just a couple of things in my past that directed me on my sci-fi path. First contact with it was bacouse of my uncle. He had a VCR at home (my parents didn’t want to buy one in fear I would be in fron of TV constantly) and some tapes of Star Wars movies. Ta-dam! My first science fiction experience. Who would’ve thought, right? ;). Later, he brought Star Trek movies on our family gathering so we could watch them together. They all loved Star Trek so that feeling crossed onto me. I was hooked. Two gratest sci-fi franchizes ever got their hands on me and didn’t plan to let go.

Sci-fi artists: Carl Critchlow

Thrud the BarbarianImage via Wikipedia

First time I stumbled upon Carl Critchlow’s work is about 7years ago when I was first introduced to Magic: The Gathering card game. MTG features a lot of famous and some less famous artists but Carl’s pictures were sticking out of the bunch.
Carl Critchlow is a British artist working in mainly in the field of science fiction comics. His fully-painted style contributed to Judge Dredd series such as Son of the Mean Machine and “Dredd versus Batman” adventure The Ultimate Riddle. He also worked with Pat Mills on the third book of the series Flesh, entitled Flesh III: The Legend of Shaman. He created Thrud The Barbarian’ while still in at art college, in 1981. He also worked on such titles as ‘Mean Machine‘, ‘Magic the Gathering‘, ‘ABC Warriors‘ and ‘Lobo‘.

I used information about Carl Critchlow found on Wikipedia and Lambiek.
You can also check out his online gallery at www.carlcritchlow.com.

Photoshoped

I found this great blog where guys find Photoshop altered magazine covers, movie posters and the like and show us how even professionals can make huge mistakes :). My favorite posts are:
Batman fascinated by window frame (I never noticed it before but this poster has a bunch of errors) :

“Not only is Batman choosing a rather odd position to brood from (he’s watching right into the window frame), the floor is, well, phoned in. The reflections would be correct only if the floor were below the buildings opposite.” - Photoshoped

and Mary Jane is Mister Fantastic:

“Either Kirsten Dunst’s right left arm is five feet long and has two elbows, or someone, somewhere, figured no one would notice. We are that no one! ” - Photoshoped

Anyways, I strongly suggest you visit this great site, I’m subscribing as we speak.

Green lantern in cinemas after all?

Blockbuster Buzz - After the collapse of Jack Black’s rather unlikely attempt at Green Lantern it looked as if the property might be dead, at least until after George Miller’s Justice League movie completed its interminable gestation. Now, though Comicology suggests that Greg Berlanti, writer of neo-Dallas Dirty Sexy Money is currently working on the script for a live-action Green Lantern movie. Maybe that sneaky poster in I am Legend that hinted at a live action movie about the interplanetary peacekeeper wasn’t such a red herring after all..

X-Men To Move West, Have Sex

Io9 - Marvel Comics plans to publish a much less depressing version of the X-Men, if news reports coming from this weekend’s WizardWorld: Los Angeles are anything to go by. Following the culmination of literally decades of angst, death and depression culminating in the accidental shooting of Professor Xavier and its aftermath, July will see the start of a new era for the characters. Writers Warren Ellis and Matt Fraction are joining the writing team, the team is moving to San Francisco, and… well, there some sex, apparently.
